My YouTube Channel "DreamPolly"

As a online marketing student and web developer, I have 3 piece of advice for YouTube or whatever.

1) Content is King
Set a regular posting schedule a follow it TO THE LETTER. Start w realistic goals like 1 vid weekly. Whatever you have to do, post it on schedule weekly. Don't worry about quality; that will come w time. Don't worry about cinematography; you'll learn it. Don't worry about perfect anything; it's not & never will be. Esp in the beginning, the real growth is YOU becoming a "YouTuber".

2) Honesty sells. Don't worry about being funny or cute or clever; if that's not you, you'll get tired of the act. Don't create a character; be authentic. Don't exaggerate; be real.

3) Script! Ad libbing w a camera is HARD.
Plan your vid.
Prepare your script.
Present your info.
The difference between successful channels and flops is largely one of process. Those w process have taken the work out of how and merely need to plug in the what. Those w/o process are constantly making the same decisions over and over again and getting tired of deciding. Thus those w process can crank out more content faster w less work than those without. This translates to more personal time, less frustrations, and higher likelihood of not quitting.

"The harder I work, the luckier I get." - ???

Good luck.

Ok, just watch all 4 vids that are posted.

Animation is jerky and slow. It seems like stop motion but w the each frame displayed for a full 5 seconds each. Very stilted. You might be trying to go slower to give folks time to read, but there are other ways of handling it. Even the non-speaking frames are extended this length. It got REAL irritating, fast.

After I increased the speed to 1.75x it was tolerably fast enough. Reducing the number of frames would also make both a shorter vids & a smaller file size that uploads quicker.

As to the "story", I can relate. When I "came out" as poly to my mom, she said that she would have preferred that I announced my being homosexual instead.

As to dealing w "Jeff", many of their questions & comments get downright RUDE. I eventually started asking the same questions in reverse. "I'll discuss my bedroom, if you'll discuss yours." Kinda like my wife eventually started rubbing them on the belly when they, without permission, rubbed her pregnant belly.

The worst offenders were the "Christians" while my secular friends would just nod and say, "Cool".

My brother flew to the Phillipines to marry another woman while his 1st wife and 3 daughters were back here in the US. She found out about it & moved out before they got back & filed divorce. So he had a legal marriage in the Phillipines and another legal marriage in the US until the divorce: legal polygyny.
When asked by his 1st wife at the divorce hearing how he could justify his behavior, he said, "I haven't figured that part out yet."
When Mom confronted me w my polygyny, I asked, "What about my brother?"
Mom: "He felt bad about what he did."
Me: "So, if you do what you believe to be sin deliberately, it's ok so long as you feel bad about it, but if you do what you believe is NOT sin, it's bad because someone else thinks it's sin?!"

Another true story:
We lived across the street from a local preacher. I am a loud, obnoxious person. (They knew that BEFORE they married me.) My teen son had been neglecting to feed and care for our 4 rabbits. I yelled at him while outside about it. Preacher's wife heard me. It "upset her". He comes over the next day when I'm not home and tells my wife to "get your husband under control". My wife asked, "So, apparently your wife has you under her control, which makes you think I should have my husband under mine, but who are you to think YOU can get me under YOUR control? If you have a problem w my husband, talk to him."
He never talked to me.

PS: Check your spelling. Lots of errors.

This project is a labor of love by a very unique, highly intelligent and surprisingly young woman. She’s doing great.

These 2 critiques are accurate, and Emily and I have been over them a few times. Unfortunately, the way she makes these, it is impossible to fix mistakes unless she starts over from scratch. And she gets attached to them and wants to push ahead rather than delete or redo. She's been thinking the same thing as you suggested:
Whatever you have to do, post it on schedule weekly. Don't worry about quality; that will come w time.

Thank you, @The Revolting Man. I know that @Tesfalcon was probably just giving me advice, but it still hurt me and made me cry when I read his message.
I need to learn how to take criticism, but it's hard since I'm sensitive and overly emotional.

I just realized, this is actually On Topic. Maybe we should move it from Off Topic to Online Outreach or Links of Interest. @FollowingHim

Done. Now in Links of Interest.

@Emily, @Tesfalcon's advice would be technically correct if you were wanting to aim for maximum professionalism, and if you wanted to try and get lots of viewers and make money off YouTube. But I don't think this is what you're trying to do. As far as I can see you're just having fun.

Bear in mind that you are making videos using simple game software, not a fully featured flexible animation tool. This software is a quick and fun way to tell a story, but has many limitations. If you are really keen on getting into animation I would strongly recommend you looking into more fully featured animation software and seeing what you can achieve - such as Blender for 3D animation, or Synfig or OpenToonz for 2D animation, all of which are open source and free so you could just download them and try them out for fun. If you are keen on animation, do try these out now - you have far more free time today than you will ever have as an adult, you have the freedom to spend hours learning cool software. If you're going to take the time to learn how to use a piece of software, choose free software - that way you'll always be able to install and use it even if you have no money for licences (and you can install it today without having to ask your father to pay for it!). But if you just want to have some fun telling stories, keep doing what you're doing and don't worry about it looking highly professional. It probably isn't going to ever look highly professional from the software you're using, because the software is designed for ease of use rather than high quality output. And that's ok. Your focus is on the story, not on the software.

Take on as much or as little of his advice as you like, depending on how big your goal is.

Thanks, @FollowingHim

My goal is to show polygyny in a positive light in a cute funny way. Even I'm 15, I act more 12 or younger due to my autism, so my videos tend to be more childish.

Also due to my autism, I have to use Gacha Club because real amination tools hurt my brain too much. Although, I'm learning to use a 3D animation software called MikuMikuDance which is supposed to be more easy to use than other 3D animation softwares, but I barely patience using it and it sometimes hurts my brain.

Look into 2D animation software then, it's much simpler than 3D animation. And many highly professional things are actually produced in 2D - most cartoons are 2D.

Pencil 2D is really simple, but also can only produce simple things. Synfig and Opentoonz are far more flexible, but still much easier to start with than any 3D animation tool. All are free.

Look up tutorials / demonstrations of all of those on YouTube and see what takes your fancy.

The problem with learning something like MikuMikuDance is that it is highly specialised. You can only really do one thing with it. You will put many many hours into trying to learn it, and then one day the company making it will go out of business, the software will be gone, and all the effort you put into learning it will be wasted as you won't be able to ever use it again. Or the company owning it will decide to charge money for it, more than you can afford, and once again you won't have access to it.

But if you learn something generic and open source, like Synfig or Opentoonz, you can use it for anything. It will always be available (even if people stop developing the software, as it's open source the last version made will always be available to you for free). And you'll be able to use it for things even as an adult - maybe in a few years time you'll have a friend (or even husband!) who needs a small online animated advertisement for their business - suddenly your old skills will be really useful!

I started a policy of putting my time into learning open source software whenever there was the option decades ago, and have never regretted it. At university I had the option of using many different pieces of statistical software, but I decided to learn R because it was open source so I'd always have it. At every place I have worked since, and even when I have worked for myself, I have always been able to use this software without ever having to pay a licence for it. Licences for other alternatives are very expensive. This was a very good decision that I have always been glad I made.

Well, another problem is that I'm also really bad at drawing, so my animations would look very sloppy.

I think I just prefer using Gacha Club. I like making stories in a fun way, and it looks cute! Maybe I'll start using a 2D animation tool in the future, but right now, it really doesn't interest me.

And there's something entirely perfect about the degree to which your productions match who you are as a person. I would imagine the potential exists for other individuals out there in the world who struggle with the same challenges you do to discover your videos and find that they make much more sense to them than would all of the super-amazing highly-produced 3D videos ever would -- which would mean that they wouldn't 'relax' enough to 'hear' what you're really saying in your videos.

I love them -- just as they are, @Emily. You're adorable and sweet, and so are they.

I think altogether your style+mistakes could make it less threatening/offensive to someone new to the topic. It is like holding a palm-sized mini-pistol instead of a shotgun. Equally effective if it hits target, but looks less scary to the target, like they can hang around a little while instead of immediately running away. Maybe even mock the size of the gun as a way to help themselves stay calm and not panic. I can imagine someone trembling at their computer saying "don't worry, this isn't going to brainwash me, the production quality isn't high enough to do that, I'll be ok, just watching it cuz its funny, not gonna hurt me."

LOL This analogy is scary!

Some of the big, famous channels today had ugly, unwatchable vids in their early days. You look at them and wonder, "How did THIS guy become a YouTube star w millions of subscribers?!"

Whether you see yourself as a "hobby", "labor of love", or a business, YouTube views all content creators as businesses. When you qualify for a check, they'll cut you a check.

Children on YouTube can become VERY financially successful. They have the advantage:

* Cuter (more critical for vids showing your face)
* Honest (more prevalent in spoken vs textual format)
* Time to research and produce the vids
* Willingness to experiment
* Time to build an archive and a following,
* etc.

This isn't a "get rich quick scheme", but I know several full-time YouTubers (adults included) which treat it like a business, optimize for views and subscribers & get the rewards.

Think of it as a child growing up.

* Idea is concieved until the 1st post is birthed.

* The 1st year is your education where you learn to walk: what vids you like to make, how you make them, etc. This is "you & your computer" time.

* The 2nd year is where you learn the "rules of the road" in your interactions w the public (who can be VERY cruel) and other YouTubers: sharing vs competition.

* The 3rd+ is just growth & more of the same. Life changes might force channel evolution, but that's a hurdle for later.

For every 7-figure earner, there are hundreds of 6-figure earner & thousands of 5-figure earners.

Even $50/month would be nice reward for the effort, yes?

I don't know much about animation software, but I do know that anime is VERY popular right now.

Fictional stories can also be very effective at making points like this. It tends to be more effective when part of a bigger story so it sounds less preachy, but that would be a lot more work.

Concider your favorite anime. They have an overall story line (Humanity is under attack by monsters), but the core story is the personal interactions of the individual characters as they sacrifice for or get revenge on each other. Thus we are made to care about this core group of 8 heroes while learning to despise the core group of 8 enemies who hinder our heroes and their goals.

In traditional anime style, every scene requires 3 panels (for the paper comix):

Frame 1: Setting
Frame 2: Expound on the setting
Frame 3: Change

In vid, think about in seconds.

Ex:
:00-:01 Grassy field.
:01-:02 Butterfly floating above the grass.
:02-:03 Field is on the back of a turtle.

This pattern would repeat itself.
:03-:04 The turtle is gigantic.
:04-:05 The turtle is moving.
:05-:06 The turtle is in space.
Etc.

Full, smooth video runs at ~24 frames / second. So, that would mean that you have ~72 frames to tell a 3 second "story".

Take on as much or as little of his advice as you like, depending on how big your goal is.

If working for earthly rewards requires "maximum professionalism", what does working for the Lord require?

Colossians 3:23-24
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."

I have 17k subscribers and get over 10,000 views a month and I don’t make $50 from YouTube every month. The money is in Patreon.

Sorry if I sound like an idiot, but I'm trouble understanding Tesfalcon is trying to tell me.
Like, does he want me to make money? Does he want me to make stories that are literally 3 seconds long? Does he think my videos are ugly?

I don't want to make money from my videos. Seeing my parents laugh and enjoy my work is a reward to me.

To be honest, I don't like being told how to make my videos and I don't know how frames work. I have to do things in my own way, but if my dad wants me to do something different, I'll do it. And don't worry, I am still trying to learn how to make my videos faster. You guys are still allowed to give me advice, I just might be very picky about it.

I don't actually watch anime or read manga, but I done research on it.
