Poly Practised Elsewhere

@Frank! You’re a machine! I’m so far behind now on this thread, and so busy elsewhere now that I’ll never catch up!

Your efforts and focus are much appreciated

@Verifyveritas76 You are welcome. Of course I can't keep up doing this endlessly, but I do have a bit more gas in the tank yet. I hope it's not becoming overbearing, and just to be clear, I do plan to stop at some point. I don't actually expect everyone is able to read it all; most people have other things in life to do too. But since it is now pinned and easily accessible, it is hopefully something many can tackle and absorb as time permits.

I hope you don't. I've seen several websites purport to offer feeds of polygamy news. They tend to be out of date, shallow, and limited in focus to just the US. This thread has out done them all in depth, breadth, and currentness; while also throwing in relevant historical information.

Thank you @rockfox for the endorsement. For years I have been aware of a vast pool of info on polygynous marriage existing out there in the wider world which to a great degree has remained hidden from view in the supposedly "progressive", but largely anti-polygynous nations. If I think something is useful, I like to pass it on. Maybe it's kind of like I've ventured outside the walls of a city full of hungry people and I've seen all this good food available that is there for the taking - how can I not go and tell the people in the city about it? At this point, it seems like it's just what I should do. I see myself as blessed if I can do something to bless others. In whatever degree it is found to be good by you and others, I'm happy and thankful.

My best friend here in our small town is from Singapore. He assures me that polygamy is acceptable all throughout China and the Chinese diaspora (even among Chinese Christians) but that high-society China officially looks down on it and the rest of the China-related countries pretend it doesn't exist or pretend that they don't accept it -- but only because they don't want to be looked down on by Western countries or be considered depraved by other Christians.

Anthropologists have shown olygyny is the accepted and common form of marriage in the overwhelming majority of human societies throughout the world. In Goody's words: "To start by trying to explain polygyny is to start from the wrong end. As far as human cultures are concerned, it is monogamy that is rare, polygyny is common."

Josephus...explicitly states that it is customary among Jewish men to marry more than one wife(Ant.XVII:14;cf.War,1:477)...Justin's claim that the Jews marry many women. (Justinus Martyr, Dialogus cum Triphone Iudaeo, IV:141 ,Patrologia Graeca, ed. Migne, VI, p.800 (English translation in A. Roberts & J.Donaldson eds. The Ante-Nicene Fathers, (Edinburgh 1989) [reprint], 266, 270)).

I can't even get started on this thread there is so much information. Awesome job Frank! Someone needs to condense all this down to a quick paragraph.

Thanks @Soldier's Psalm. I'm not sure we can condense this into "a quick paragraph". So far I've posted over two hundred links (and counting). That many links probably won't all fit into one page. I do like the idea of having them all together in a more concise place to give easier access, I'm just not sure what is the best way to make that happen.
