Pearl's debate analysis

While this Andrew guy is annoying as heck, I would agree with his argument that in and of itself, polygyny isn’t the prescription for solving the West’s ills. In my opinion, it’s only an option that should not be prevented.

The West needs to follow our Savior more intently, regardless of marriage arrangements.

Other than that, this Andrew guy is pretty jerky on this video. I don’t really know who he is otherwise.

If the West doesn't grok that He never changed His rules about marriage, they aren't even following the right Savior.

But is marriage the central pillar of salvation and following our Lord? A person could be wrong on marriage, but right on holy living.
In many cases it's not that they "got marriage wrong," but it's that they flat out reject the character of their Lord and Savior. A rejection of the Word. It's not even in the case of - "I'm not interested," but in many cases they are abusive and call it evil (demonic even). Most of them, however, will testify that they've read the scriptures and consider it to be the truth. Therefore, they must of read passages such as this:

2 Samuel 12:8
I (the Creator - who is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow) gave you your master’s house (King Saul was killed off for his rebellion) and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more.

Perhaps they believe it's God that needs to repent, and change his "Old Testament" ways. Perhaps they believe they have the authority to re-write the Word of God according to their own image. No wonder the Creator on Judgement Day will tell many of them - "I never knew you." Even though they casted out demons in his name, and did good works. He will still tell them "I never knew you." If a Christian calls polygyny - done according to the Word of God - which the Apostle Paul says is holy, righteous, and good - as evil or demonic - then certainly that Christian does not know their Lord and Savior.

Or, maybe they are blinded to ONE doctrine of truth.

One need not be a theologian to be in communion with our Lord.

Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

The word of God clearly allows a man to add wives. Most would leave a church that preaches truth - and chase after churches that say “all of the Old Testament stuff has been done away with (except for maybe some of the 10 commandments and the tithes ofc), and they will gravitate towards churches like that. Those are the mega churches. You can’t become a mega church without having leaven in your teachings, because it’s what the people want. A church that preaches truth is simply not going to be popular. And less people inside a church = less donations for the pastor.

We’re told very clearly what doctrines are necessary for salvation. They are “confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.”

That sets you on the path and there is no timeline given for how long you have to get the details right before you’re damned for all eternity.

Polygyny is not a salvation issue. You can reject it and still retain your salvation.

Are you telling us that the instant you came to faith, you held to every single teaching and doctrine you have now? You read through the scriptures in one day and were enlightened about all of it? I think probably not.

There’s a concept called sanctification. We become more and more like our savior each and every day. It doesn’t happen all at once.

But let’s not hijack this thread. Any more comment on the video itself? On Pearl? The debate participants?

I watched this video when it first came out and I was very encouraged by it. Pearl has 2 million subscribers and a lot of them just heard a positive take on our cause.

Pearl’s analysis of the debate will move more opinions our way than the debate itself ever will. Andrew Wilson is a duplicitous unbeliever. His whole schrick of “ethical Christianity” is just another way to say “I’m god and what I say goes.” Strip off his thin veneer of Christian vocabulary and he’s just another secular humanist who thinks humans can arrive at truth from inside ourselves.

His whole argument in the debate was that the countries with the most polygyny were also the ones that the UN lists as the poorest in the world. His argument being that polygyny couldn’t save the west if it was impoverishing Africa.

The hypocrisy was that the UN statistics he cited measures poverty by family size and women’s access to education, things that go directly against Wilson’s public statements about what would save the west.

Wilson’s own argument was completely controversies by everything he has ever said in the past, and he knew it.

Our guys on the other hand acted with character and restraint and assumed that Wilson was being sincere in his objections. I was proud of them.

I’m not saying instantly. The concept of sanctification I agree with. And with some it takes longer. But there comes a time when a person simply rejects the truth. They prefer the righteousness that comes from the world, and not the righteousness that comes from their Lord and Savior. “Lukewarm” is a good word, imo. If such a thing is a salvation issue - that is way above my pay grade.

Yep. He was really reaching with that line of argument. There’s a WHOLE lot more to why those nations are impoverished and he knows it. I don’t know him, but he sounds like a whiny menstruating stray cat.
