I had put off sending a text for awhile, but really felt like the sincere family writing us off should be challenged. Today I got my thoughts together and sent it. I am frequently blessed with greater clarity as I interact with others on the topic. Today I looked up that word translated abomination in proverbs 17:15 and saw it is associated with idolatry....and WOW! The picture just came into sharp focus!
I now feel like asking Christians "If Jesus said today that polygyny was ok with Him, would you honor that or rebel against it?"
Because....

HE ALREADY DID!

So, which side are you on? The side that is not ashamed, or the side that that wants to pretend (enter idolatry) that some pope and group of bishops opinion (human flawed and mortal) deserves to be not just made equal to that of our almighty creator God YHWH, but to be elevated above it!

This is why those who justify the wicked and those who condemn the just are BOTH disgusting to YHWH. In both cases they are guilty of the idolatry of elevating human opinion....a mere man's word ABOVE His.

So, once again I feel blessed by reading, formulating a response, and meditating on the unchanging nature of our Father in Heaven YHWH.

Thanks for the testimony, @Joleneakamama. Looking at the uses of the word abomination throughout Proverbs is quite insightful. During our Bible reading time in Proverbs this morning I highlighted the severity of the condemnation on those engaged in many common practices people don't think much about. People should be overwhelmed in terror at the thought of God's judgement.
 
Sin is a violation against an injured party. Capital "SIN" is a violation against Yahwehs Law- defaming Gods name and Idolatry thru coveting.
Violations against his teachings is also sin (not a sin that condemns to hell) but the injured party is usually ourselves. A man laying with a man invites the diseases of the latter, hence abomination or filthiness in and on your body. The gravity of such becomes personal, from diseases thru the ubiquitous hemorroids. AIDS is a classic example of a sin violating oneself. In most cases of AIDS it is indicative of someone not following rudimentary clean sexual practices.
Later in scripture the injured party is someone who we chould have helped when we "knoweth to do good but doeth it not is sin." Nowhere in scripture are we commanded to hand a ten dollar bill to the street corner beggar, but if that prompting comes(assuming it is from the Holy Spirit) we best follow that for the benefit of another.

That is one that no one else can know. There is also no specified penalty for it.

The irony that connects that to the subject of polygyny is that a man who knows it is lawful to take a second wife, and has the opportunity to, could be sinning if he does not. He would be rejecting "a good thing" after all. Yet modern catholic affirming Christians accuse the man of sinning when he DOES provide security, "covering," children, and protection to a second woman.

Yes, the early church required that single women join families rather than depend on the benevolence of the church.
Nowadays they are abandoned to a willing Papa Government.
 
I will never know the relief that i provide to a single unemployed mom by buying diapers for her newborn, or the protective cover when i intercede in prayer, or the injuries i prevent by rebuilding a deck for a recent widow.
 
A while back I decided to try and live by this passage. I looked at the signs being held up and noticed none of the ones in my area were directly asking for anything. They just presented their need and said things like “Anything helps”. I generally don’t end up giving anything, but I keep a bunch of Costco water bottle in my car and have given them out on multiple occasions.

Precisely!! you were a blessing to a stranger which makes a difference. When you give to the poor, let not your right hand know what your left hand does.

We keep small bottles of cold drinks in the car to give to people working out in the heat. It's either hot here or very hot, so I try to encourage those who are working by rewarding their efforts and diligence in the heat by stopping and passing a cold drink to them out of the car window. People are surprised but always thankful.

I will say, though, that I try to find the “walk-out” in situations like this.
When Judas chided Yeshuah about letting the woman break the alabaster box of oil over his head, he stated that the oil could have been sold and the money given to the poor instead. That wouldn’t have been a loan.
Jewish belief was that, for each person, life is lived on the rim of a wheel. As it goes around, you are either going up or you are on your way down. It’s best to give to those at the bottom when you are at the top, because your time is coming when you will be at the bottom and in need.

I fully agree. The professional beggar is the one that I try to avoid. The ones that can but won't.

It is hard to know for certain if their situation is thrust upon them or their choice so we do our best discernment and go with that. I am sure I have been suckered in the past. I may have overlooked someone that I should have given alms to as well. To all, I try to show the love of God!
 
True to form, we have managed to leave the point of the OP in the dust
I will start another thread about benevolence that hits at ground zero for us guys considering a sister wife or four.

Not immediately, though.
Gotta keep my day job.
