What do we know of "Abominations"

This is an open topic as I was spurred by the word "abomination" in scripture. I think much has been lost in translation as well as to history. The times of the Hebrew nation are not curated as one would in a museum but only highlighted in what God preserved for us in this 21st century. So then the abomination as written is under-defined as XX and YY and ZZ, with little flesh on it to fill in the picture for us. What do we know from antiquity as "abomination"? Or maybe another way to qualify our list is, What is NOT an abomination? I am reminded of the Essenes (I am kinda sure) who essentially thought all physical desires were antithetical to spiritual desires and thus "ungodly". Most of us here I think are past that but still form a type of unstable foundation in our psyche regarding pleasure. Fill in what you know.

The Hebrew word is "toebah"; first use in Scripture is by Yosef with regard to the Egyptians, but it's applied in practice to things like "not-foods," male homosexuality ('sodomy'), idolatries, and dishonest weights and measures.

In other words, things that are subsidized, mandated, and taught to children in the Publik Cesspools today.

In general yes MarkC but what specific things? I will ask differently; "And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded" Deut 17. How does a person in this day and age "serve" another god? We dont have a local Sun god temple.... or do we?

The specifics are easy, and any on-line Bible (like BLB, among others) will find lots of 'em in seconds; they'll fit the pattern I mentioned (if only in part).

But your clarification is important. Most of what the Whore Church has done for years - from sun-god-day pork pot-lucks to renaming His sacrifice after a pagan fertility goddess, celebrated with bunnies and eggs - are 'in His Face' examples. Explicitly.

So is "cross-dressing" -- so "how much more so," cutting off the genitalia of little children and teaching them that explicit abomination is OK?

So is an abomination (literally) of a fiat "world reserve currency" (see Deuteronomy 25:13-19) that He seems to compare directly even to Amalek.
It's "choose Death". And that pretty well summarizes the difference, I can't help but suggest.

What does it mean to serve other gods? Here is my opinion mixed with some scripture too.

Let's kick off the bases with the most common "American" gods first:

So called Christmas or the so called celebration of Yeshua's birth. We know He wasnt born at this time but that's when people celebrate. If someone was to truly be celebrating His birth I have no quarrel but the truth is people celebrate Yule/saturnalia and worship other gods. Some will even claim saying the tree represents the cross! We are told in Jeremiah not to do so! Yah says do not worship me how the nations worship their gods. This is an abomination before Him.

Mark C touched on it, but celebrating easter after a fertility goddess when we are commanded by Him to celebrate passover. Yah says do not worship me how the nations worship their gods. This also is an abomination before Him.

Valentine's Day is celebrated as the new lupercalia following the sacrifices made to romulus and remus. This is a pagan celebration and is not fitting that His people take part in it. If you want to show love to your wife then do it, but do not partake of the ways of the nations says Yah. This is an abomination before Him.

Halloween is celebrated and venerated here in America. We are to have no part in baking cakes for the queen of heaven or dressing up as demon spirits or burning the innocent in scarecrows. Yes that's where these things come from. These are abominable before Him.

We pass our children through the fire to Molech (abortions) and celebrate it. There was 56 million abortions in 2021. How disgusting that we would worship Molech and celebrate it. This is an abomination before Yah.

We serve mammon instead of Yah. Yeshua says we cannot serve two masters. Many people's master/god is their wealth. We know what Yeshua speaks about how difficult it is for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The worship of money is abominable before Him.

We worship the medical industry. I have no quarrel with doctors or pharmaceuticals when done in the correct manner. Yah is our healer. If we are depressed we go before Him and He will heal us. Our joy comes from Yahweh. Remember the woman who spent her whole fortune on doctors and Yeshua heals her. Do not worship medicine, do not seek your answer in medicine, seek and worship Yah and He will guide you. The worship of pharmakia/witchcraft is abominable before Him, and by it all the nations are led astray.

When we add or take away from His word we either worship ourselves or some other man as gods. To worship and serve Yah we must do what He says. Even Yeshua says in Luke, why do you call me Lord Lord and not do what I say? In 1st John 2 its says that by this we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. Then it says the one who says "I have come to know Him" and does not keep His commandments, is a liar and thr truth is not in him. When we worship ourselves or manmade doctrines we have made an idol and false gods. These things are also abominable before Him.

Mark C mentioned food. Not only are we called not to consume abominable things, we are also called to abominate them or "make them an abomination" to us. What sticks out the most on the list of abominable things that people choose to consume is the pig. Yah tells us to not eat it, to make it abominable to us, and also that even touching it while it is alive will make you unclean, most other things only make you unclean by touching their carcass. Isaiah 66 also prophetically tells us that those eating swine and rats and abominable things will be consumed before Him. We worship the one true God by obeying His commands.

We were called to be a holy set apart people who follow with their whole heart after Yah. How does one do that? You love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all you soul, with all your strength, and all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself. His Torah explains how to do this.

Ezekiel 8 and 9 tells us how Yah punished/slaughtered Jerusalem for their abominations. The people were exceedingly guilty. The people who were spared were those who wept and mourned at the atrocities. They had their foreheads marked and were saved. Let us not stand idly by and be destroyed, but let us weep and mourn at the atrocities that the world commits. Let us be found worthy to be saved from the wrath of the living Yah.

This is also fitting. As I was reading about when Yeshua cleansed the temple when He rode in, I remembered back to this passage.

1¶The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2“Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, all you of Judah who enter in at these gates to worship the LORD!’ ”

3Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

4“Do not trust in these lying words, saying, ‘The temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD are these.’

5¶“For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor,

6“if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, or walk after other gods to your hurt,

7“then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.

8¶“Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit.

9“Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know,

10“and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered to do all these abominations’?

11“Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” says the LORD.

12¶“But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I set My name at the first, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.

13“And now, because you have done all these works,” says the LORD, “and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I called you, but you did not answer,

14“therefore I will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

15“And I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brethren—the whole posterity of Ephraim.

16¶“Therefore do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, nor make intercession to Me; for I will not hear you.

17“Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18“The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.

19“Do they provoke Me to anger?” says the LORD. “Do they not provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces?”

20¶Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out on this place—on man and on beast, on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and not be quenched.”

21¶Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat.

22“For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.

23“But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’

24“Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.

25“Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.

26“Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers.

27¶“Therefore you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not obey you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you.
Judgment on Obscene Religion
28¶“So you shall say to them, ‘This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the LORD their God nor receive correction. Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth.

29‘Cut off your hair and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the desolate heights; for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.’

30“For the children of Judah have done evil in My sight,” says the LORD. “They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to pollute it.

31“And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into My heart.

32¶“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “when it will no more be called Tophet, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter; for they will bury in Tophet until there is no room.

33“The corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the heaven and for the beasts of the earth. And no one will frighten them away.

34“Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. For the land shall be desolate.
