I have been working on the most gracious and direct (a hard combination to achieve) approaches to sanctify the character of Adonai in the perceptions of anti-poly churchians.
If that is confusing I'll rephrase. Churchians think that poly is similar to homosexuality (gross, I know). If you tell them Adonai is a polygamist (Ezekiel 23) they are likely to feel at least a little bit like you called Adonai unholy (which is unthinkable).
The fact remains though that God is a polygamist. I am seeing that people can come around to this when you don't allow them to move the conversation away from Ezekiel 23. However people usually stop there and don't move on to the truth that Adonai delights in his own character and actions. He delights in his polygamy and the future redemption/restoration of both his brides.
I want people to be like Adonai and delight in his character/actions too! He is wonderful, loving, gracious, righteous, just and holy. SO IS HIS POLYGAMY!
So after sticking a long time in the Ezekiel 23 conversation people kind of need somewhere to go next in the scriptures. I am starting to believe that place is Song of Solomon. It sets such a long example with lots of mental food to chew on so that people can adjust emotionally to the aspect of Adonai's character that they are just becoming aware of.
It sets Adonai's vision of marriage so far apart from the satanic one given us in this world. It is passionate, generous, erotic, very very polyginist, and unashamed.
It is also almost completely ignored.
When I looked on YouTube for an audio version of the book the first 30 results had ZERO professionally produced audio versions. Most other books of the bible have around 20 in the first 30 results. Song of Solomon has 2 versions that amateurs read in the first 30 results. The other results are some pretty atrocious eisegesis and several women teaching men about christian sex.
This is the bible's book most focused on romantic love and it is side stepped! Maybe that's because it has a group of virgins celebrating the sexual relationship between their husband and his new wife?
Listen, an honest reading of Song of Solomon after knowing that Adonai is a polygamist is old-paradigm destroying!, not just regarding polygyny and sex but it will cause people to wonder if their previous pastors have been at all honest with them.
