We came from Sweden in 1641. Might be time to go back!! Wow. Nice 'shacks!'

"Unlike many other European nations, Sweden is known to recognize polygamous marriages performed abroad. All the wives are subsequently registered as spouses in the population register…"

How cool is that?! Though of course that liberal policy (i.e. policy that allows rather than restricts) is under attack.

The U.S. mandates divorce for polygamists prior to immigration.

Something tells me these courtesies are reserved for a subset that we don't fall into...

Ok, so you might have to grow a beard, wear a robe and turban (no jeans!), be named Abdullah or Mohammad, have all your wives wear Burkas, and a few other things but hey, it's nice housing.

I think the Burka would be a tougher sell than the poly...

I may have ranted about this before but just thought I'd share the idiosyncrasy of Filipino law regarding polygamy.

In the Philippines, polygamy is LEGAL if you are a Muslim.
For anyone else it's ILLEGAL and bigamy is a deportable offense for non-muslim foreigners.
Such injustice.

If I was a betting man I'd say that will happen in a lot of western countries that are welcoming of Muslims. Even if it is indirect via their acceptance of Sharia court jurisdiction over Muslims.

There are some meme's going around on the web about trolling sjw types by using their own ridiculous arguments against them, and simply claiming to identify as something you are not (e.g. a man claiming he identifies a woman, or vice versa, or claiming a fictional ethnicity on a census form).

Pretending to be trans-religious is not something I would recommend. It caused a lot of grief for Peter.

You're probably right. I remember arguing with a very conservative christian about plural marriage. He was furious that I was defending PM from scripture, accused me of secretly being a muslim, and said I'd probably be calling for women to cover their heads next.

So I pointed out where Paul called on women to covering their heads.

I know, I know, not for today, etc etc. But I was amazed how much angrier he was about head coverings than about PM.

Hmmm, self identifying as a monogamist in each of your relationships? It just multiple monogamy. :D

I am 100% Swedish. Do I need to marry my future wives in a country that recognizes polygyny, or can I marry them in the U.S. and then move there and qualify? Does the policy specifically say you must be Muslim?

That is classic! This has to be saved in the archives.

Brilliant Steve, my man!

You'd have to read the actual legislation. New Zealand recognises polygynous marriages of immigrants for some narrow purposes, but if citizens go overseas, marry polygynously, then return, this is explicitly forbidden as bigamy. You'll probably find there is no loophole you can use.

Ha. You realize, that to some, your statement is a direct challenge and couldn't be accepted any quicker than if delivered by gauntlet...

In other words, "Can't do what? Hold my beer..."
