Just picked up a book at the thrift shop, quick & enjoyable read

Title: Esau
Style: Fiction
1993, James R Shott

So the book is not biblically accurate in alot of ways, (timelines), and the author took alot of leeway with alot of details the bible doesnt include about Esau's life, but it is a fiction after all.

It tells about his concubines with no shame, his struggles of selling his birthright. It borders on romance as well as practicle reasons that he has a wife, then another, then another.....all in a very loving, western romance kind of way.....well, not so much, but that it is easy to wrap the western mindset around it

It deals through the story of obeying your husband, wives love for each other, getting over jealousy etc. It also borders on "erotic" describing the lovemaking (not in detail) of 2 married people. Even goes as far as One wive telling a new one...this is good for the husband, and better for the family if the wives get along..WOW..

If I would put this on the A/G front table, and say here is a good book....i would be drug in for promoting adultry & pornography.'

So here is the kicker, this guy just told a good story like it "could have been" with out the footnotes and other endless crap of "why we dont do that anymore"..

an excerpt

biblical facts not checked

some parphrasing, like a screen play

Mahalath, wife #1 in the current camp (Esau has another back at his mother's place), for this marriage

Adah, SWTB, skeptical

Mahalath: Adah, how do you feel about marrying Esau?

Adah: i will marry him if thats what you want

Mahalath: i do want that, i want you always with me

Adah: (feeling warm & loved, her hand tightens on Mahalath) : and i want to be with you, but what did Esau say about this?

Mahalath (smiling) : he was pleased, he said it is an excellent solution to the problem

Adah: But how do you feel about sharing Esau with me?

Mahalath (nodding) It is good for a man to have more than one wife. Good for not only him, but for his wives, If they get along all right, and we will

End..

So it blows my mind, this Pres minister that wrote this, made sure to include in the text and dialog the one flesh connections, at both weddings

Ishmael was Mahalaths father & presided over the weddings, not sure if thats fact or fiction

i cant wait to read some of this other guys stuff and see if he is just as open, honest, & matter of fact about things like this
