Is DOMA finished?

It appears that DOMA (the Federal "Defense of Marriage Act" defining marriage as between one man and one woman only) may soon be nothing more than a memory.

"In a major reversal, the Obama administration has notified Congress that it will no longer defend the federal law that says marriage can exist only between a man and a woman."

Good. What does this mean for Poly families though? Does it mean the State laws can be challenged? :D

It means that one of the roadblocks is being removed. I think it is likely that it will soon be struck down in a Federal Court as unconstitutional. If it is unconstitutional for the Federal Government to define marriage as only between one man and one woman then it will be even more difficult for states with Constitutional amendments defining marriage to be between one man and one woman only.

"-The Defense of Marriage Act remains in effect unless a federal court strikes it down or Congress repeals it.

-The government will stop defending the law in two court cases, in New York and Connecticut, where the law has been challenged, and in any other cases challenging the law.

-If the law is to be defended, members of Congress would have to step up and join those lawsuits."
