How many wives is realistic?

Hello friends,

I am a born again believer in Jesus Christ and have recently discovered the truth of PM. As Martin Luther said, "Show me the scripture that proves me wrong?" I cannot find anything in scripture that condemns PM.

That being said... How many wives is it realistic for a man to have? Taking into account the needs of a woman, how many wives would it be realistic for a man to have? Any thoughts on this?

King David had at least a half dozen, Jacob 4, Moses 2, others had more. Down through history most men probably were monogamous though and many remained single. The Bible doesn’t give us a limit anywhere.

I would say the answer depends on the man in question, what are his abilities. How many wives and children can a man support financially, emotionally, etc. Prayer, searching oneself, and seeking the Father’s will, that would bring you the answer in time.

At the risk of seeming frivolous, the limit might be when the husband has difficulty remembering the names of all his children, or even of all his wives. Wear name tags. If America accepted PM legally, then in such a large population, one could expect a tiny number of polygamous households with say, ten wives. If PM were legal, and if 10% of men had two wives, and 3% of men had three wives, we might expect an exponential decay curve, so that 1% would have four wives, 0.3% five wives, and so on. These numbers are just examples of what might happen.

every family is going to have a different calling from the Lord and his ideas about the size are the only ones that count.

lets face it, most marriages are not even called into having one extra wife, and some men need to grow up before he can call them into marriage (but most will marry anyway. ;) )
