In one of the polygyny groups I'm in on facebook, someone from there wanted to do a story with the creator of the group about Biblical polygyny. The creator of the group declined and they requested he put the word out to any other Men who may be interested. I have thought about contacting her but wanted to get any input the members here may have about it?

He posted their correspondence in the group, here it is

"I am working on a new series for the Investigation Discovery Network and wanted to speak with you about one of the stories that we are looking into revisiting in an upcoming episode that involves some people that you may know.

When you have an opportunity, please give me a call at 917 606 3845 or email me at this address and let me know a good time to reach you.

Thanks so much!

to me

The episode is about Sean Goff and revisiting his relationship with Joy Risker and the tragic ending of her life. I had seen some postings on message boards indicating that you might have known them at one point and wanted to speak with you about it. Please give me a call or email me and let me know a good time to reach you if you might consider this.

Thanks!

to me

Hello Tyler –

I understand and appreciate your position, and believe that it is important to honor Joy’s memory and recognize the tragedy of this loss.

One of the reasons why I wanted to reach out to you in particular was because I wanted to try and understand more about the Christian polygamy and Sean’s leadership in this community prior to his criminal behavior. I think it is important to properly represent the polyamorous lifestyle that in this particular case is not necessarily consistent with people’s perceptions that usually involves the Mormon faith. I welcome any insight you would like to share on this subject presently and hope that as we move forward and have specific questions you might be willing to continue to discuss further.

Regarding future methods of communication, you mention the hostility that you worry about encountering and the risk associated with speaking publicly, and our aim is not to judge you or put your family at risk. That said, we are a television program and we need people who are willing to present Biblical Christian polygany as a faith-based lifestyle choice that can truly work as a basis for building a non-traditional but viable family unit. If you were able to be anonymous – with your image blurred/disguised and going by a nickname or alias, would this be something that you would consider discussing? Let me know and I’m happy to provide some sample images that would give you an idea of how this would appear onscreen so that you can see for yourself.

Please give me a call at 917 606 3845 if you would like to discuss further on the phone – anything we discuss will remain off the record unless/until you indicate otherwise. Also, if there’s someone else that you can think of that might be willing to present this perspective and do so in the context of honoring Joy’s memory, please let me know or feel free to put me in contact with them.

I appreciate your time and consideration, and hope that in the end we can successfully accomplish the shared goal of celebrating Joy’s life and honoring her memory.

Best,
Elissa

I’m sorry to hear about your health problems and would certainly appreciate if you would post information about this project in your groups and invite them to get in touch with me.

Please direct them to get in touch with me at LionTelevisionUS@gmail.com and I will give them a call or email them back. If you want to give any individuals my phone number or personal email address that is fine but for group postings, if you could offer this address, that would be great.
Given the sensitivity of the subject matter, the more sites/groups you posted in the better – anything we can do to increase our chances of getting some responses. Also let me know if you would like me to write anything up for you or if you feel that with the information we have exchanged via email you feel comfortable writing up a post. I’m completely amenable to either option – whatever is easier for you.

I really appreciate your help and look forward to continuing to work with you.

Best,
Elissa"

I have not called any of the numbers, just posted it as I seen it in the group. If we thought this would be a fair story, it may be a good opportunity for us to brake a few stereotypes

ahhh, i would avoid the whole thing.

enough info in the e-mail to identify a hit-piece.

I agree with Steve.
I read about the "main story" and there is nothing to be gained by having the word polygamy mentioned in association with this story. It can only hurt the community. This was wrong because he murdered her - it has NOTHING to do with the fact that he was polygamous and "understanding" polygamous families is not what they are after in this piece.

The story is not about Biblical Polygamy. And it is hit piece as well.

And any family that appears on television in any way should have several years of poly under their belt, in my opinion.

I also think it is more of a hit piece. Murdering your wife is wrong rather you have 1 or 10. How many monogamists have murdered their spouse? Even doing this story sheds a bad perspective on polygyny rather then on murdering your wife.

The only thing I as thinking is if they are going to do the story anyways, it would be nice to have a counter to that tragedy with a story of a happy family where the husband isn't killing a wife lol. Or in other words, not all are like the one in the headline story.

While I don't share the skepticism of most, I recognize that they could certainly portray even a great story as bad, that would be up to the editors and well beyond control of those interviewed. My question is how should one shed positive light on polygyny? I have to say I don't care for the tactics of some I have seen. I just don't want some of these guys being the image people get in their minds when they think of Christian polygyny. I also don't want Cody Brown to be the picture, though it seems they are doing many things right the tie with Mormonism is still there.

Do we produce our own documentary using BF folks? Brian's teaching videos are great, but they are just that, teaching. Great for the curious, but I think a practical look into the daily life of others might be good. Anyone got ideas of how to go about this the right way?

I can just see sending this out to a few churches, watching the pastor or secretary drop dead in their chair as we present polygyny in a clean and Biblical, yet practical and gentle way..... Who is with me? :o

Well first off it is through Sirens Media sister company and I will tell you right now, I have dealt with them before and won't do it again. It was a very shady way they handled things that put me off. Plus we were supposed to preview a copy and everything and didn't get too. Then they told us it wasn't going to air so they couldn't reimburse me the money I spent. Then turned around and showed it on TV the next week. They to me any ways are shady.

Well TLC goes through principal voices. They are only mormon. Principal voices is FLDS run owned and operated. It is impossible to get anyone else on the show. Though I have had a few offers my wives are hesitant about any thing having to do with TV. More so because they can and will portray you in any light they want! Remember drama brings the ratings. Thus they will put any dramatic clause to it. Though if you can get your own channel even youtube with enough adwords you can market it very quickly. Though I am really not certain how many people would do it. It would all be in how many are really dedicated. Do a head count and see. We tried that once on here but then only a couple of folks wanted to do it. So everyone just kind of gave up on it.

Personally I think nobody should make contact with that woman wanting a story. If I remember right, this story is very personal for some people in this group because they knew this family and I believe that family was associated with this group before it became a "group" though I could be wrong. Anyway, it could have negative affects!
