I must ask...
My mother is slowly dying of cervical cancer caused by the HPV virus given to her by my libertine father years ago when he was 'living it up' while they were married. So my question is, how would all the wives protect their health in such extensive relationships?
I am sorry she is dying. I wondered if that is a rhetorical question or one meant to be answered. I do not mean disrespect by answering. I am wondering if you mean 39 vs. a smaller number like 3 wives or 12 wives.
It might be safer for a man to marry 10 virgins than one woman who has been with 2 men, if one of the men she has been with has only been with her and a prostitute and the prostitute has been with at least 10 men who have all been with multiple woman who have been with men. What I mean is that serial monogamy can be equivalent to having sex with hundreds of people even when you only have sex with one person who could even be the very first person you married who just happened to only have sex with one other person than you.
Did you know in South Korea multiple people can drink out of the same cup and it is perceived as fine but not in North America. In S. Korea they have a common school drinking cup by the water cooler, I tried to explain about mono but no one understood. The one cup thing has nothing to do with being poor S. Korea is materially prosperous. I think there has been a history of less serial monogamy there so it is safer, although recently serial monogamy is running rampant but it has still been for less years than the U.S. Of course you are talking about China not S. Korea.
Historically divorce has been highly frowned upon in S. Korea (at least divorced women, I do not know about men) and polygyny was allowed in S. Korea so other than prostitution there was very little serial monogamy to my guestimation (on account of divorces being frowned upon and in some cases women literally being forbidden from stepping outside the gates of the house without their husband's permission) so I guess there would be a lot less STD's there than somewhere with serial monogamy and prostitution. S. Korea shares a lot of culture with China(it is the "dagger" between China and Japan that both countries consider to be both the threat and protection from the other country) so it might have been similar in China until the one child policy, communism and other Westernizations came along.
