Reason # 1: Lack of Good Reading Skills
The Bible was written in the form of language. God chose to convey his primary revelation to us in words. For many people today they do not read very well. For some their IQ might even be a little low and thus reading and understanding what they have read is difficult for them. Additionally, in a technological age where many people have watched tv for more hours than they have read this hinders their brain from being able to digest written literature with ease. Furthermore, many people who do not read well often cannot break down sentences and see how the grammar works and thus they are not able to grasp the theme or common ideas in a portion of Scripture along with its context. With this lack of reading comprehension skills when we approach them with the Bible what may be easy for us may not be easy for them to mentally grasp.
Solution? As believers when we meet those like this it is wise to try and befriend them and gradually introduce them to good literature from solid Bible teachers. Getting them to read and interact with various portions of Scripture is essential for their mental development. Too, we do not have to introduce them to too much all at once until they have some time to mature. Gradual doses of truth can go a long way in building the mental blocks needed for maturation.
